Julia Bronkhorst in Dutch Art Song volume 1 & 2
Julia Bronkhorst in Dutch Art Song features two unique downloads with a survey of now forgotten Dutch song repertoire. The composers are in part illustrious, such as Willem Pijper and Henriëtte Bosmans to whom the first download is almost entirely dedicated. Likewise still remembered in name are Alphons Diepenbrock, Bernard Zweers, Hendrik Andriessen and Jan Brandts Buys (famous for his hit opera 'Die Schneider von Schonau'). The conoisseur will be intrigued by the great rarities on this set: the songs of Bertha Koopman (1874-1953), Carl Smulders (1863-1934), Rudolf 'the other' Mengelberg (1892-1959) and Johannes 'son of the more famous composer' Röntgen. There are creations too, with Caroline Ansink's 'Elisabeth Eybers Songs' (composed for Bronkhorst in 2015) and Leo Samama's 2016 composition 'Ubuntu' (on words by Desmond Tutu and dedicated to Bronkhorst). Comes with a nice 57 page pdf booklet loaded with photographs and Julia's reminiscences.
